Mumbai: A month after the Tibetan New Year celebrations comes the news of a violent crackdown on demonstrations in Tibet, with 10 reported deaths.

With demonstrations being held all over the world to protest the Chinese crackdown in Tibet, the mood among Mumbai-based Tibetans isn’t any different. A candlelight vigil is slated to be held at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences tomorrow, in remembrance of those who have died.

Friends of Tibet (FOT), a group that supports the freedom of Tibetans also plans to hold a march to the Chinese Consulate at Nariman Point and hand over a letter of protest against the violent crackdown to the Chinese Counsel.

Further, a signature campaign is being conducted in the city against the Olympics being held in China. The signatures shall be sent to the Chairman of the International Olympic Committee. “When I came to know about the incident I was saddened, but happy in a way too,” said Kesang Bhutia, a student. “The world will now pay more attention to the cause of Tibetans,” he continued.

“There have been around 100 deaths but only ten reported,” said Sethu Das, founder of FOT. “The protest in China is like that of the Quit India Movement, and will gain momentum,” said Rohit Singh, a campaigner of FOT.

“We feel saddened that the Indian government has so far not even condemned the use of force against the Tibetan protest,” Singh reiterated.

Tibetan Lions and Monday's Ultimatum
By Baldeo Pandey

What will happen to Tibetan freedom fighters today?

Monday…….Yes! Today is Monday……..

Dragons can not coerce the Tibetan consciousness,

Hundreds of sacrifices,

Now they are awakened fighters,

Roaring lions,

Such days rarely come in to one's life…..

Vowed to get back Fatherland…..

Spiritualism of Free Tibet,

Free Soul…..

Lhasa, no more a 'Land of Sleeping Lions'…..

Potala Palace waiting for loyal sons and daughters of land…..

Monks……the leaders,

Tibet, Tibet………Free Tibet….

Freedom demands sacrifices….

Sacrifice of fear, ignorance…….

Himalayan heaven,

Land of warriors……

Fighting for lost glory,

Identity, culture, existence……

Martyrs raising the voice of freedom….

No more hypocrisy….

Chinese Tanks can not stop the Freedom Fighters…..

Now each moment is witness of courage and ultimate sacrifice…

Freedom is the attitude…..

Entire world salute you……Tibetan Awakening,

Rising sun……and Monday, March 17, 2008….

Chinese ultimatum……

A barbarian Fatwa,

Uncivilized threatening……

But all, futile…..

Tibetans symbolizing …….Freedom……Sacrifices……Consciousness……Civility…

Tibet!

Freedom!

Tibetans…….

Courageous people on earth……

Challenging the Sino Monsters….

Inside Lhasa……

Mantra of Freedom…..

Today Chinese Troops can not defeat the Tibetan resolution……

Freedom…..freedom …..Only freedom……

A Free Tibet!
