Lhasang Tsering on "The World With Tibet"
The first important fact that should become clear from this map is that Tibet is a big country – more than 2.5 million square kilometres. This means Tibet is more than two-thirds the size of India and almost as big as Western Europe. A free Tibet will; therefore; be big enough to be a meaningful buffer between India and China. At the moment; because of China’s occupation and militarisation of Tibet; we have a situation where India and China are locked in an unwinnable arms race along the entire length of the Himalayas. This has implications for world peace because India and China together account for than one-third of the world’s population.

In connection with the size of Tibet it needs to be pointed out that the so-called 'Tibet Autonomous Region' – which is what the world sees as 'Tibet' – is only the truncated half of Tibet. The North-Eastern Province of Amdo; the birthplace of the present 14th His Holiness the Dalai Lama; has been separated from the rest of Tibet and renamed 'Qinghai.' Also; large parts of Eastern Tibet; the traditional Kham Province; have been incorporated into neighbouring Chinese Provinces.

Like all colonial powers; China has divided Tibet into different administrative zones. The fact that China is a colonial power should also be clear from this map as it shows East Turkestan, Southern Mongolia and Manchuria as separate from China – as they rightly should be. Indeed; some sixty percent of the so-called 'Peoples' Republic of China' is occupied territory. Another important fact arising from China's occupation of Tibet that has long-term implications for global peace and stability is related to the spread of nuclear weapons.

From the above it should be clear that a 'World with Tibet' – yes; a Free Tibet; has huge and far-reaching implications for World Peace. Yes; "A World with a Free Tibet" can contribute strongly to achieving "A World with Peace". The fact of Tibet being the source of ten major rivers and the fact of the next great war being fought over fresh water lends added importance and urgency to achieving a Free Tibet. Therefore; I call upon all those who want and care about World peace to Please Help Free Tibet.
