'Indian Cartoonists on Tibet'

New Delhi: 'Indian Cartoonists on Tibet' - a travelling exhibition of cartoons from Friends of Tibet highlighting the Tibet issue and the tumultuous Indo-China relations from the year 1950-2005 was held at the Convention Foyer, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi from March 5-11, 2007. The exhibition was inaugurated by eminent Cartoonist and Associate Editor of India Today Shri Ravi Shankar and Geshe Lhakdor la, Director of the Tibetan Library and Archives on March 5, 2007 at 5.30 pm by lighting a lamp in the traditional way.

This exhibition of selected cartoons on the Tibet issue (1950-2005) and the tumultuous Sino-Indian relations is by renowned cartoonists: Shankar, Ranga, OV Vijayan, RK Laxman, Ravi Shankar, Mario Miranda, Rajinder Puri, Prriya Raj, Yesudasan, Nanda Soobben, Abe Gowda, Kaak, Madhu Omalloor, Balu, Thommy, Ponnappa, Morparia and Prakash Shetty. Introduction and text are by Claude Arpi, author of ‘The Fate of Tibet’ and ‘India and Her Neighbourhood: A French Observer's Views’.

Shibayan Raha of friends of Tibet gave a brief introduction on the 'Indian Cartoonists on Tibet' exhibition and to the Tibetan Freedom Movement. The exhibition coincided with a India-China Trade Summit at Delhi's India Habitat Cantre which made many visiting Chinese dignitaries to the exhibition. This week-long exhibition organised by Friends of Tibet in association with the Foundation for the Universal Responsibility of HH the Dalai Lama gave a new leash of life to the Tibetan freedom movement by garnering more support among the Indian masses through the medium of cartoons.
