Candle Light Vigil at Aligarh University by Friends of Tibet (Aligargh)

Aligarh, UP: Friends of Tibet (Aligarh) on March 10, 2007 organised a Candle Light Vigil for Indo-Tibet solidarity on the ocassion of 48th Tibetan National Uprising Day. Fiends of Tibet Campaigner Anant Kumar Asthana, Friends of Tibet (Aligarh) Coordinator Binod Kumar and several other members joined the Vigil which was organised at the Aligarh Muslim University campus.

The candle light vigil started with an introduction and the significance of the day by Anant Asthana, in which he highlighted the urgency of attending the issue of Tibet by Indians - starting from the Chinese Cultural Revolution and subsequent colonisation of Tibet by China, he gave a detailed chronological account of events leading up to March 10, 1959.

Binod Kumar (Friends of Tibet, Coordinator) explained the security-related aspects of the Tibet Issue while some Tibet supporters expressed their concerns for recent stands taken by Tibetan Exile Government based in India, which they termed as 'discouraging’. The importance of "Independence of Tibet" was discussed at length shared their feelings about the issue of Tibet. The event concluded with the lighting of candles in the memory of victims of Cultural Revolution and Tibetan Freedom Fighters who lost their lives and people taking a pledge to and work for a free Tibet.


Tibetan National Uprising Day was organised by Friends of Tibet (Aligarh) at the Aligarh Muslim University, Uttar Pradesh on March 10, 2007.
