US$1.7m For US-Tibet Links

A plan to increase links between Americans and
Tibetans Washington says it will give up 1.7 million
US dollars to support projects fostering links between
Americans and Tibetans.
The State Department announced an open competition for
tenders for development, cultural, educational and
cultural projects.
It says the aim is to promote understanding between
the Americans and the people of the Tibetan ethnic
group living in China.
The department says some projects should be aimed at
tackling health problems the ethnic Tibetans face.
It also invited tender for projects which will aid
conservationists, tourism and entrepreneurs.
The United States has repeatedly urged Beijing to
improve its human rights record in Tibet.
