China Opposes US Move on E Asia

Opposing US attempts to set up a missile defence system in East Asia, China today pressed for early talks on the issue to accommodate the interests of other countries. "We have stated on many occasions that we are not favour of the US efforts to develop a missile defence system," Chinese Foreign Minister spokesperson Liu Jianchao told reporters here.
"The Chinese side is not in favour of developing such a missile system within the region," Liu said when asked on the planned US-Japan theatre missile defence system.
